Momo Iona Ueda is a Scottish-born instrumentalist and composer currently based in London.
Momo began learning the violin at age 4, studying with Andrea Gajic for 11 years at RCS Juniors and St Mary’s Music School. During this time, she performed as a soloist playing Saint-Saëns third violin concerto at St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh and Sibelius Humoresques with the Glasgow Barons, as well as playing in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain between 2018-19 and holding various principal positions with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. During her time at Oxford University, she premiered a number of new compositions and performed with Ensemble ISIS, working with composers including Elaine Mitchener, Jennifer Walshe, and Simon Steen-Anderson. She now specialises in contemporary and new music as well as popular music, passionate about experimentation, improvisation, and good intonation. Momo currently plays keyboard and violin in London-based band Blue Bayou, gigging regularly in Oxford and London.
As a composer and sound artist, Momo specialises in electroacoustic and live electronics, combining her experiences with performing classical music with folk and popular genres. She is particularly interested in the physiological experiences of listening and sound as a communicative agent. She has written for choirs and instrumental ensembles, music for plays, as well as live electronic and audiovisual works.
